Fall 2022 News

Happy Fall Everyone.

We hope that you are well and enjoying the return to favourite pleasures and activities that this time of year often brings. The United Voices Choir has already begun rehearsing and this newsletter gives a brief update regarding our plans for the autumn choral season.

Our upcoming concert program includes the stunningly beautiful and well known German Requiem by Johannes Brahms, and the relatively unknown, but equally warm and moving, 42nd Psalm by Felix Mendelssohn. While both these works are comforting, the lush and complex Brahms, in providing solace to mourners, is understandably somewhat sombre, whereas the Mendelssohn, as is typical of his music, provides a much lighter and sunnier tone. Supported by soloists and orchestra, both of these works will be performed on Saturday, November 26, 2 p.m. at Kerrisdale Presbyterian Church, and again on Sunday November, 27 at 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in the West End. Stay tuned to our website, or contact us at info@voiceschoir.ca for further details.

The 2021-22 year was a very difficult time for most non-profit organizations, including our choir. While we were able to present two very successful in-person concerts at St. Paul’s Anglican Church and Kerrisdale Presbyterian Church, ticket sales for these concerts, and thus our revenues, were somewhat curtailed because of concerns among potential attendees about the spread of COVID-19 and because of capacity restrictions established by venue operators. In spite of these challenges and realizing that many people were experiencing and continue to experience financial stresses, we were determined not to raise ticket prices for last year’s concerts and we will not increase our $25 ticket price for our concerts this fall.

As was anticipated, these decisions have created some financial difficulties for our choir. Therefore, to overcome our deficits and ensure that we can continue to offer high quality choral concerts with soloists and orchestra, we are undertaking a fund–raising campaign through to the end of December. Our goal is to raise $25,000. The choir is very grateful to the Duke Family Charitable Fund which has offered to match all donations made during this campaign. With this in mind, if you are able to donate any amount to our choir, your contribution will be doubled. Tax receipts will be provided for all donations over $25.

To make a donation, please visit our Donations page. All donations will be very much appreciated.

In closing, we are excited to be singing together again and we are looking forward to sharing wonderful music with you in November. As we get closer to the concert dates, we will send you specific details regarding where and how to purchase tickets..

We send all good wishes to you and your families for continued good health and are most grateful for your sustaining support and interest in United Voices Choir.

All good wishes to you,

United Voices Choir
